FlashySurf is a browser extension designed to help students prepare for the SAT exam through passive learning while browsing the web. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices.
Information We Collect
Local Data Storage
FlashySurf stores the following information locally on your device using your browser's storage:
- Learning Progress: Number of correct and incorrect SAT answers
- User Preferences: Flashcard frequency settings, break timestamps
- Study Data: Your notes on incorrect answers, previously answered questions, identified weak areas
- Session Information: Anonymous session identifier (UUID4) for performance reports
- Cached Reports: Temporarily stored performance reports
This data remains on your device and is used solely to provide personalized learning experiences.
Performance Reports (Optional)
When you choose to generate a performance report, we collect:
- Anonymous session identifier (randomly generated UUID4)
- Total correct and incorrect SAT answers
- Your three weakest topic areas with accuracy rates
Important: This data contains no personal information and cannot be traced back to you individually.
Aggregate Statistics
We maintain anonymous aggregate statistics including:
- Total SAT questions answered across all users
- Most challenging topic areas across all users
- General usage patterns
This data is used for educational research and service improvement.
How We Use Your Information
- Local Data: To provide personalized flashcards, track your progress, and customize your learning experience
- Performance Reports: To generate visual progress reports using Google Cloud Run services
- Aggregate Data: To improve our educational algorithms and understand learning patterns
Data Storage and Security
- Local Storage: All personal data is stored locally on your device using Chrome's secure storage API
- Server Storage: Performance report data is stored securely on Google Firebase with encryption
- Data Transmission: All data sent to our servers uses HTTPS encryption
- Data Retention: Performance report data is retained only as long as necessary for aggregate statistics
Third-Party Services
Google Cloud Run
We use Google Cloud Run to generate performance report visualizations. Only anonymous statistical data is sent to this service.
Advertising
We may display banner advertisements through Google AdSense or similar networks. While we strive to work with privacy-conscious ad networks, we cannot control the data practices of third-party advertisers. These ads may be targeted based on educational content context but will not use your personal browsing data.
What We Don't Collect
FlashySurf does NOT collect, store, or transmit:
- Personal identifying information (name, email, address)
- Browsing history or website content
- Location data or IP addresses
- Any data that could identify you personally
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Delete all local data by uninstalling the extension
- Opt out of performance report generation

Children's Privacy
FlashySurf is designed for high school students preparing for the SAT. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13 years of age.
